The Day Ahead At The Minnesota Capitol
St. Paul, MN) -- Jobs, health care for very-low-income Minnesotans and safer streets are among issues on the agenda today at the State Capitol. Democrats in the Senate unveil their job-creation plan to supplement a major bonding bill which could have a floor vote as soon as tomorrow. Meanwhile a Senate panel continues wrestling with ways to revive General Assistance Medical Care -- the health coverage plan which Governor Pawlenty canceled effective April 1st to force lawmakers to make what he says are much-needed changes. Two lawmakers unveil a bill this afternoon they say will help make streets safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and transit riders. Meanwhile state lawmakers are waiting for Governor Pawlenty's State of the State speech on Thursday, and his budget-balancing plan which could come out this week or next.
